Helping Entrepreneurs Succeed: Ev Williams and Biz Stone

by Scott Edward Walker on September 12th, 2012

To Our Clients & Friends: Welcome to our weekly series “Helping Entrepreneurs Succeed.”  Each week, we share a favorite video of a successful entrepreneur, investor or business leader on a variety of topics.  This week, we present Ev Williams and Biz Stone, co-founders of Twitter (and now Obvious) and brilliant entrepreneurs.

In this interesting interview by Hunter Walk (the director of Product Management at Google) at today’s TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, Ev and Biz first discuss their new project Medium.  They then share some solid nuggets for entrepreneurs, including that:
  • value is moving up the stack;
  • entrepreneurs need to build value on top of what has become more and more a commodity;
  • today, entrepreneurs have to pay a lot more attention to design and user experience;
  • there aren’t things that are incredibly popular that cannot make money;
  • once a product shows value to hundreds of millions of people there will certainly be a business model; and
  • you have to get more efficient and focused as you get older.

I hope you enjoy it.  Many thanks, Scott
